History of Ormesby Lace Group
I was taught bobbin lace in 1981 at the Art School in Great Yarmouth, by Gillian Waters.
In the late 80´s I started teaching friends, we went around each other's houses taking it in turns. Then other Ladies started to ask me to teach them, so in November 1991 I started lessons one night a week in my Dining Room.
Interest in lace making snowballed so that by September 1992 I had moved to the kitchen at the Bracecamp Parish Hall on one night a week. Thus the Ormesby Lace Group was formed.
In October 1993 I started to include the first Saturday of the month and by 1998 I had two weekly classes running, one on Monday evening and the other on Tuesday afternoon, both of which continue to this day.
For four years we held Lace days at the Acle High School and the profits were given to various charities. We still give to charity by selling some equipment and by collecting at the Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival and give this to E.A.C.H at Christmas time.
